Welcome
Welcome to the 25th iteration of the annual Seoul Model United Nations conference.
My name is Grace An, a senior at Seoul Foreign School, and it is my privilege to serve as the Secretary-General of SEOMUN XXV.
As the world becomes increasingly globalized and interdependent through social, economic, and environmental factors, collective action–the effort to achieve a common goal– has become central to international relations. Especially seeing the rippling effects of the Russia-Ukraine war on international trade and the global supply chain, efforts to unite and resolve the war impacts has become significant. From G7 summits, UN General Assembly resolutions, non-governmental organizations, and agencies’ emergency aids to global fundraisers, the fight for peace through unity has been prevalent.
Unity, as President Joe Biden claims, is not reaching a uniform consensus, but rather resolving a disagreement. It is only through unity that global goals of social peace and political stability can be achieved, where the concept of pluralism–political philosophy that recognizes the diversity within the political body– is accepted. Likewise, under the acknowledgment of unity’s significance, at SEOMUN, we prioritize unity, where delegates are able to represent their nations and engage in interactive resolution-crafting and debates to effectively deal with disagreements or conflicts, collectively. We attempted to show our emphasis on unity through our logo, produced through the partnership with artist YDH–by.YoonDH@gmail.com. Showing two people facing each other and shaking hands, the SEOMUN XXV prioritizes peaceful cooperation among all delegates, chairs, admin, and supervisors.
Through the bonds of unity, the SEOMUN XXV Secretariat wishes for all delegates and chairs to participate in meaningful discussions, where the 3-day conference can encourage collective efforts to achieve liberalist goals against contemporary global issues.
Kind Regards,
Grace An
