Commission on the Status of Women

Esteemed delegates,

I am Daniel Shin, a junior at Seoul International School. It is my utmost honor to serve as the president of the Commission on the Status of Women, a committee dedicated to empowering women worldwide. With the recent pandemic and ongoing geopolitical turmoil in Ukraine sparking global disturbances, unregulated workplaces and deadly warzones have become the epicenter of violence and discrimination against vulnerable women.

This year’s theme, “Bonds of Unity,” perfectly embodies the international response necessary to tackle the global issue of gender violence and inequality. Nations are tasked with addressing some of the most complex issues in history yet wield enormous power to unite under common goals. A rupture in any of these bonds is likely to stymie global progress and send ripples of disunity across international borders.

Delegates in CSW will be exploring three important issues: gender diversity and equality in the workforce, protection of women in conflict zones, and equal educational opportunities for women. All three agendas warrant an immediate and effective global effort; no single party acting alone can successfully rid any of the aforementioned issues entirely. With gender equality being one of the Sustainable Development Goals by 2030, delegates in CSW must take the opportunity to collectively combat gender discrimination on the international level. My co-chairs and I look forward to hearing your voices and the fiery discussions that will surely take place.

I look forward to seeing you all at SEOMUN XXV.

Sincerely,

Daniel Shin

President of the Commission on the Status of Women
