United Nations High Commissioner For Refugees

Hello,

This is Jordan Kim, a current junior attending Seoul International School, and it is my utmost honor to serve as the president of the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees at SEOMUN XXV. In particular, this iteration of SEOMUN marks my personal 14th and one of the final MUN conferences of my high school career. Over the years, SEOMUN has bestowed me so many treasured memories and introduced me to the world of MUN that I have fallen in love with. From serving as an admin officer in middle school to standing here as the president of a committee, SEOMUN perfectly encapsulates my personal MUN experiences.

The privilege to represent the UNHCR is what also makes this final SEOMUN experience special. Refugees, a term that accounts for approximately 89.3 million people around the world, continue to grow in number as conflicts and warfare worldwide cease to end. Recently, due to the conflict in Ukraine, an additional five million people have fled the country and face a devastating shortage of water, food, and shelter. Such unfortunate news has served as a vital reminder to the world so that more attention can be devoted to ensuring the safety and well-being of these refugees. Now, the next step is for concrete action to follow so that refugees no longer become innocent victims of such dangers and atrocities. As president of UNHCR, I am confident that our delegates will come, debate, and devise solutions that can make the world even just a little safer for refugees.

Thank you,

Jordan Kim
